15 Bean Soup
Cold, winter weather just calls for a big pot of soup and this week 15 Bean Soup was on our menu. Each time I make it the recipe changes per my mood. This version may be my best pot ever!! Pair this with my Southern Buttermilk Cornbread and you got yourself a cozy meal will suited for a cold winter day.

15 Bean Soup
This delicious, cozy soup will warm your bones on these cold winter days...guaranteed!!
Ingredients
- Discard the flavoring package.
- 1 bag 15 Bean Soup dried beans
- ham chunks or ham bone
- 1/4 c dried onion flakes
- 10 cups of water
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 T butter
- 1/4 c ketchup
- 2 tsp yellow mustard or spicy brown mustard (or to taste)
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Rinse beans in a colander.
- Add beans, water, ham and onion flakes to a large soup pot. Simmer until the water has been flavored.
- *Optional method. Place beans, water, ham and onion flakes into a pressure cooker and process on high for 30 minutes. Naturally release for 20 minutes.)
- Saute minced garlic in melted butter until it is tender.
- Remove meat for the pot and tear into bite size pieces.
- In a large soup pot on the stove add beans, flavored water, ham and cooked garlic. Cook on medium high until the beans are tender.
- Add ketchup, mustard, salt and pepper.
- Simmer for 30 minutes. Taste to adjust seasonings.
- Serve with Southern Buttermilk Cornbread.
