Bread Pudding with a Spirited Sauce

Ingredients

Bread Pudding
  • 6 - 8 slices of bread, cut into 3/4" cubes
  • 1/2 c Raisins
  • 2 c milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
Spirited Sauce
  • 1 1/4 c powered sugar
  • 6 Tbsp butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c rum, brandy or apple juice

Instructions

Bread Pudding assembly
  1. Heat oven to 350°F (176C)
  2. Butter a 1 qt baking dish.
  3. Combine bread cubes and raisins in a baking dish.
  4. Combine milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg, blend well.
  5. Pour over bread and raisins. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  6. Bake, uncovered, for 50 minutes or until a knife is inserted in the center comes out clean.
Spirited Sauce
  1. In a saucepan, combine all ingredients.
  2. Cook over low heat, stirring consistently, until thickened, about 3 minutes.
  3. Served warm over pudding.
